Mount Kailas-Manasarovar Yatra Information 2015

Om Namasivaya !
Kavoy Kanakatthirale Potri !
Kailai Malayane Potri Potri !!

From Puranic age Sri Kailas is a holy mountain full of snow and spread over TIBET. Here Lord Shiva Himself is in the form of Sri Kailas mountain and blesses His devotees. It is situated at a height of 22,028 feet above sea level.

Doing Parikrama of Sri Kailas erases the accumulated sins of a life time, while 108 circumbulations will achieve Salvation. A  holy trip to holy Mt. Kailas is a memorable one for  the rest of our life. The Tibetan people have named it” Kang Rinpoche “ or snow jewel and the Hindus refer to it as Mount Meru. Buddhist, Hindu and Jain pilgrims from allover the  world come to this  holy mountain to circumbulate rather than scale the 22028 foot high peak.

Hindus who walk around the 52 kms circumference of Mt. Kailas use the term parikrama. Tibetans refer to the clockwise circumbulation as a kora. Both words mean the same thing,

The Jains who refer to the Kailas as Ashtapada believe the founder of their faith , Adhi Rishabanantha, resides a top of the mountain.

And the Bonpos ,the region which predates Buddhism in Tibet, maintains that the entire mystical region and the Nine story Swastika Mountain is the seat of all power.

Mt. Kailas is also the source of four major Rivers: The Indus, The Brahmaputra, The Karnali, and the Sutlej. The end of these rivers are more than 2000 kms apart, yet they all have their source within hundred kms of Mt. Kailas. Nature lovers can encounter numerous unusual species of birds, wildlife and flora & funa here. Mt. Kailas also known as the’ Sumeru Parvat’ in Hindu  epics .

Sprawling below Mt .Kailas is the sacred lake Manasarovar where ritual bath will deliver a pilgrim to Brahma's paradise and drinking  of its water relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes. Near Manasarovar is another large lake named Rakshastal ( Ravana Lake ) that holds far less spiritual significance.

We will be undertaking the trip by the grace of Lord Siva. This opportunity has come to us only because of the good deeds we did in our previous births and now and the blessings of Lord.   We should remember this in every moment of our trip to Mt.Kailash and  we will be benefited by this thought. We are conducting this pilgrimage during May, June and August for  Outer parikrama/ Inner Parikrama / Saptharishi cave/ Nandhi parikrama .

A l t i t u d e  S i c k n e s s:  Altitude is a major factor on all of our Tibet trips. We will often reach altitudes of over 5000 m. This can have mild or severe effects on the body no matter what your level of health. Symptoms can include headache, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty in sleeping and irregular breathing and swelling. The best way to prevent this is to stay extremely hydrated and conscious of how your body is functioning. We also schedule rest days to help the body acclimatize. There is also prescription altitude medication called Diamox (consult your doctor) that can help prevent these symptoms. So any one who sees the symptom of mountain sickness should immediately inform our tour leader .We also carry  oxygen cylinders  and portable altitude chamber (Gamow bag ). Be sure that each of you are traveling on your own risk.

P h y s i c a l   F i t n e s s:  Although most of the trip will be done in vehicles, it is important that pilgrims be in relatively good health. The trek around Kailash requires some strenuous hiking and altitude can take a physical toll on the body. If you have any chronic health problems please consult your doctor. All are requested to have medical checkup ( Better to take Tread-Mill Test ) and fitness report as well for taking Visa.

I n s u r a n c e:  We recommend that all clients obtain proper medical and travel insurance prior to the trip. It is high risk trip, goes to 19500fts  above sea level within 8 days  and cross at least 3 countries i.e. India, Nepal and Tibet (Peoples Republic of China).
